The US, UK, Canada and Australia classify modafinil as a prescription drug. This label means buying it online without a prescription is technically illegal. That said, authorities very rarely pursue anyone for doing it. I’m based out of the US, have bought modafinil many times in the past, and not once have I had any issues.
Modafinil classification and legality are probably quite different in other countries. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of all the international laws which apply to this drug. If you live outside the four countries I have mentioned, you may want to look into things a bit more first.
If you are very concerned or unsure about the legality of modafinil, you can consider a related product called adrafinil. It is a prodrug to modafinil, meaning it needs to be metabolized by your body first. This process makes it slower acting, but once it completes, adrafinil becomes modafinil and gives the same effects. Adrafinil is a prescription free supplement that is 100% legal to buy (though again, I can only speak for the US, UK, Canada and Australia). Other than adrafinil, there are also several other cognitive enhancement drugs which will do the trick.
Online Modafinil Manufacturing
At the moment, any modafinil you buy online is sourced in India and made by one of two companies: HAB Pharma or Sun Pharma. Some people may frown upon this, but these are both giant and reputable pharmaceutical firms, so there are no concerns about quality.
Indian companies are not required to respect any medical patents filed before 1995. Modafinil was patented in 1990, hence India’s ability to produce it. However, with some small exceptions, the modafinil patent expired in 2015. So, I imagine we may start seeing a bit more competition in the market soon.
If you’re trying to decide which of Sun Pharma or HAB Pharma is better, it’s six one way and half dozen the other. Both manufacture generic Provigil to the same pharmaceutical grade standards. Sun has been around longer and is more established, but compared to HAB, they also charge more for their products. I have used modafinil and armodafinil from both, and frankly, was not able to tell any difference.
For reference, Sun Pharma manufactures the products Modalert and Waklert, while the HAB Pharma equivalents are Modvigil and Artvigil. The first product listed for both manufacturers is modafinil, the second one is armodafinil.
Where to Buy Modafinil Online?
Since all modafinil products you can purchase online are made by one of the two Indian companies mentioned above, where you buy from is more about the reputation and reliability of the seller and less about the product itself. All online stores ship the same pills made in the same two factories.
You want to give your money to a vendor that is reliable and will be there for you when you need them. Over time, I found four modafinil stores which fit that bill. All get the thumbs up from people on various nootropic communities like Reddit. I had also personally ordered product several times from three of the four and was completely happy with how things went.
Note: You’ll notice that every modafinil vendor offers a 15% to 35% discount when paying with Bitcoin. Until recently, I haven’t been taking advantage, mainly because I couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to use Bitcoin. It turns out it’s not only pretty easy, but well worth it. All you do is use your Visa, Mastercard or any other payment method with a service like Coinmama (there are others, but that’s the one I’ve been happiest with), pay with Bitcoin at checkout and save with every order. It can add up big over time.
Though they haven’t been around as long as some of the other sellers, ModafinilStar has seen quick growth and adoption. Perhaps using their competition as a blueprint, they just seem to do things right. Support access is easy, quick and takes good care of their customers. Worldwide shipping with tracking is free and done within 24 hours of placing an order. And there’s a 100% refund guarantee if the product is lost or seized anywhere along the way.
Pricing from The Star (as they also call themselves) is very aggressive, and the lowest I have seen. They also have the largest number of payment options, including Visa and Mastercard, eChecks (only for US bank accounts), gift cards (Amazon, iTunes, and Walmart) and several cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin). Paying by eCheck will get you a 15% discount. All cryptocurrency purchases get 20% off the price and an extra 30% worth of tablets, a nice bonus. On top of it all, returning customers also get an additional 10% off every future order.
If you live in the US, ModafinilXL is an excellent choice to consider. I say if you live in the US because that’s the only country to which they ship. But, thanks to focusing on a single market, they have their process down to a tee.
Orders are dispatched within 2 hours of placement and arrive via USPS in discreet packaging in as little as seven days. If for whatever reason your order does not make it, you’re entitled to either a free re-ship or a full refund. Do note, however, that free shipping only kicks in with at least an $80 purchase.
ModafinilXL pricing is very competitive, and they even throw in some free modafinil and armodafinil samples. Payment options include secure e-Check, Visa, Mastercard, and Bitcoin. Purchases with the latter get you a massive 35% off the price, which is almost twice as much as any other vendor. And if Bitcoin is not your thing, you can still earn a 10% discount by paying with e-Check.
With every order, you also get a $25 off coupon to use next time. That coupon is stackable with both the e-Check and Bitcoin discounts for potentially massive savings down the line. ModafinilXL does like to keep its regular customers happy.
Don’t let their slightly quirky website fool you. AfinilExpress is a serious modafinil vendor and one of the industry veterans. They have been around for many, many years and continue to be as good as ever. When ModafinilCat, formerly the biggest and most popular seller of modafinil online, closed its doors in late 2016, this is who they vouched for and recommended as an alternative. That’s a big vote of confidence.
Global shipping from AfinilExpress is quick and free. They accept all Visa and MasterCard branded prepaid, debit and credit cards. Bitcoin is also welcome and will get you a 20% discount on your order. Returning customers also get an additional 10% reduction on future purchases. Both discounts are a great deal considering AfinilExpress’ already competitive pricing.
BuyMod is the only one of the four vendors listed here I have not used personally. They are quite new to the scene, but from everything I’ve heard thus far (and much like ModafinilStar), they seem to be making all the right moves.
In the customer support department, BuyMod actually leads the way by being the only online modafinil vendor I’m aware of to support life chat. Plain old email is, of course, also available. Worldwide shipping is free and comes with tracking. Depending on where you live, shipping can be speedy too. Countries like the UK, for example, are advertised as being able to receive orders in as few as three days.
Pricing at BuyMod is dollar for dollar identical to AfinilExpress and comes with the same guarantees of free reshipment or full refund should the order get lost or held while in transit. In addition to the standard payment options, BuyMod also accepts Amazon gift cards, which is a good way to go if you’d like to pay with your PayPal account (their website has detailed instructions on how to do this). Discount wise, you can look forward to a pretty hefty 25% off when paying with Bitcoin and 20 free pills on any return purchases.
I was perfectly happy with all three vendors I used, and any of them would make a fine choice. If I absolutely had to pick just one, I would probably go with ModafinilStar. It’s hard to argue with great service. And the 10% returning customer discount, 20% Bitcoin discount and 30% more tablets can really add up, especially when stacked on top of their already lowest prices around.
